NACD Colorado Chapter – New Advisory and Chapter Board Members – 2013

Mary Beth Vitale, Chair of the National Association of Corporate Directors Colorado Chapter Board, announces the recent appointment of four community and business leaders to our Advisory and Chapter Board with a statement to our communities; “We are honored to have the commitment of four highly qualified Directors to our Boards, noting that their appointments support our vision to develop the best educated Directors with a focus on skills, ethics and leadership.”

 

Chapter Board

Barbara M. Baumann is Independent Director of SM Energy Co Since 2002. Ms. Baumann is President of Cross Creek Energy Corporation, a direct investor in and consultant to energy-related companies. Ms. Baumann has held that position since July 2003. From 2000 to July 2003, Ms. Baumann was Executive Vice President of Associated Energy Managers LLC, an investment manager and general partner of a private equity energy fund. From 1981 to 1999, Ms. Baumann worked for Amoco in a variety of positions, including serving as Vice President of the Company's San Juan Basin Business Unit. Ms. Baumann is also a director of UniSource Energy Corporation (NYSE: UNS), the parent company for Tucson Electric Power Company and CVR Energy (NYSE: CVI), a petroleum refiner and the general partner of CVR Partners, a fertilizer manufacturer. Ms. Baumann is also an independent trustee of the Putnam Mutual Funds. Ms. Baumann brings to the Board over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas exploration and production industry, including broad strategic planning, economic evaluation, operational, natural gas marketing, and human resources management skills and experience, which are important to the oversight of financial, operational, and compensation management functions.

 

Mark Jensen is a director at Unwired Planet and was most previously a U.S. Managing Partner-Audit and Enterprise Risk Services, Technology Industry and a U.S. Managing Partner-Venture Capital Services Group at Deloitte LLP until his retirement from the firm in early June of 2012.  Prior to joining Deloitte as a partner in 2001, Mr. Jensen was briefly the CFO for Redleaf Group and prior to that, a partner with Arthur Andersen LLP where he was the Managing Partner of the Silicon Valley Office and also led the Global Technology Industry Practice. Mr. Jensen is a certified public accountant licensed in Colorado and California and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado and California State Societies of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Jensen received a Bachelor’s of Education Degree from Colorado State University and a Bachelors of Science Degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver. He is a Senior Fellow and a Board Member of the American Leadership Forum-Silicon Valley.

 

Advisory Board

Teresa A. Taylor has been a director of First Interstate Bancsystem since January 2012. Ms. Taylor has more than 24 years of experience in technology, media and the telecom sector. Ms. Taylor is the owner of Blue Valley Advisors, LLC and has served as Blue Valley Advisor's chief executive officer since May 2012. Ms. Taylor also serves as a director of NiSource. From 1988 to 2011, Ms. Taylor worked for Qwest Communications in Denver, Colorado, where she most recently served as chief operating officer, leading daily operations and a senior management team responsible for 30,000 employees in field support, technical development, sales, marketing, customer support and IT systems. Previous positions at Qwest include executive vice president – Business Marketing Group, executive vice president and chief administrative officer – executive vice president Wholesale Markets and executive vice president – Product and Pricing. Ms. Taylor received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

 

J. Robert Brown, Jr., Professor, University of Denver, Chauncey Wilson Memorial Research Chair.For more than two decades, J. Robert Brown has taught corporate and securities law, with a particular emphasis on corporate governance. He has authored numerous publications in the area and several of his articles have been cited by the US Supreme Court. Brown has also spent considerable time abroad, particularly in the former Soviet Union, advising governments in these areas. From 2000 – 2004, Brown served the University of Denver Sturm College of Law as an associate dean for academic affairs. He is an arbitrator for the FINRA and, among other outside activities, serves as the chairman of the board of directors of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.
