Directors on corporate boards need to understand the meaning of purpose among diverse constituents. Our panel will explore this trend including discussion around:

  • Purpose as part of the equation in mergers & acquisition
  • How corporations are becoming partners for social change and well-being
  • The expansion of the traditional mission statement to corporations now articulating a broader purpose (reason for being)

Jim E Doucette

Panelist: Jim Doucette is a Principal in EY’s Advisory Strategy practice based in Stamford, CT. Jim leads Corporate and Growth Strategy for the US. Jim has held a variety of leadership positions and worked in the management consulting and consumer products industries across a career spanning 25+ years, with a particular focus on growth strategies and enterprise transformations. Jim has consulted to the airline, consumer packaged goods, retail, hospitality, foodservice, office products, private equity and technology industries. His expertise includes corporate and growth strategy development, organization design, process design, and in-market implementation. He has led a number of large, complex transformation initiatives and has in-depth knowledge of marketing, innovation and sales strategies. Prior to EY, Jim was a Partner in McKinsey’s Consumer practice, co-leading the Marketing Strategy service line. Jim has earlier consulting leadership positions at Henry Rak Consulting Partners (acquired by McKinsey), CSC Consulting and Peppers and Rogers Group. Jim began his career at The Procter and Gamble Company in Brand Management and Finance Management positions on the Tide, NyQuil and Sunny Delight businesses. Jim holds an MBA from Cornell University (Johnson School of Management) and a Bachelor of Science in Management with a minor in Communication from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Randy Engel

Panelist: Randy Engel has been an Executive Vice President of Strategic Development at Newmont Mining Corporation and Newmont Mining Corporation of Canada Limited since October 2008. Mr. Engel served as a Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development at Newmont Mining Corp. of Canada Ltd and Newmont Mining Corp. from July 2007 to September 2008. He was responsible for Corporate Development, Treasury, Investor Relations and Strategic Planning. He has been with Newmont Mining Corp. since 1994 and served in various capacities in the areas of business planning, corporate treasury and human resources. Mr. Engel served as a Vice President of Strategic Planning and Investor Relations at Newmont from 2006 to July 2007, Group Executive of Investor Relations from 2004 to 2006 and Assistant Treasurer from 2001 to 2004. He has been Director at TMAC Resources Inc. since March 12, 2013. He served as a Director of Gabriel Resources, Ltd., since June 19, 2008 until November 27, 2009. Mr. Engel holds a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Denver and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Colorado.

David Roshak

Panelist: David Roshak is a seasoned technology veteran with more than 20 years of financial and operational leadership experience. As chief financial officer for Optiv, which was created in 2015 as a result of the Accuvant and FishNet Security merger, he is responsible for major M&A initiatives as well as managing all financial activity for the organization. Previously, Roshak served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Accuvant, responsible for managing all financial activity as well as overseeing the company’s daily operations. Roshak played a critical role during the equity transaction between Blackstone and Accuvant, which was completed in April 2014. He also played a large part in the merger between Accuvant and FishNet Security. Prior to joining Accuvant in early 2012, Roshak served as the CFO for iBAHN where he doubled the company’s international footprint to 45 countries by expanding in new, high-growth global markets such as China, India and the Middle East; managed the business development function, including creating new enterprise-level partnerships; and raised $20 million of debt financing to support new service offerings. Before his role at iBAHN, Roshak was the senior vice president of finance, mergers and acquisitions for Insight Enterprises where he managed the successful acquisition of Calence, a leading Cisco partner. He also served as CFO for the Information Services Group of Level 3, which included Software Spectrum, a $2 billion global reseller of business software, and (i)Structure, which owned and managed large corporate data centers. Roshak received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and is a certified public accountant (CPA).

Kristen Pederson

Moderator: Kris has 25 years of management consulting, auditing and financial analysis experience. She currently leads both EY’s Strategy and Customer consulting practices within EY Advisory overseeing a team of 900+ partners and practitioners. Kris’ industry focuses include: high technology, consumer products, life sciences/pharma, retail, banking, automotive, and telecommunications. Her consulting focuses include: purpose-led transformation, strategy consulting, organization design, change management, executive alignment, value realization, and process redesign. Kris is a featured conference speaker in areas such as corporate transformation, employee engagement, value realization, and women’s initiatives. Kris received her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and her B.A., in Psychology and Business Administration from UCLA.
